| Tuesday May 16 It rains. I speak to Kas Mercer, who indicates that Matchbox 20 - a band I know nothing about, and have an uneasy feeling that this is the way it should remain - are playing out in America, ripe for the picking if only Melody Maker will bite. This looks to be a way forward: but I'm too obvious in my pitches. The first of my four commissions for a variety of Domino and Grandaddy CDs trickles through the e-mail. Angus Batey begins to drop my name into every conversation he has with the latest would-be Internet magnate. (And that's quite a few.) Work out that if I review 20 CDs for three different places every week then I can make a healthy living indeed - I think that approximates at £70,000 a year. It also means completely destroying whatever soul I have left remaining, creating so much crap advertising copy on the 'Net. There has to be another way. © Everett True 2000 |
