When We Were 16

Where were you?: In high school, working at a record store and promoting concerts with some folks at the local college.

What were you?: A satyr in training

What did you wear?: Nothing memorable

What did you listen to?: David Bowie, Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Jose Feliciano, The Police, Prince, Kate Bush, The Wake, Neil Young, The Smiths, The Fall.

What did you watch?: Lots of movies (worked in a video store, also). Films that made an impression: Nightmare Alley, Gun Crazy, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Kamikaze '89, Apocalypse Now, In The Heat of the Night, The Last Waltz, Night of the Hunter, Lolita.

What did you love?: Buying albums. Falling asleep at night with the headphones on. Clubbing.

What did you hate?: For some reason, nothing unpleasant comes to mind about that time.

What did you drink?: Too much Jack Daniels and Coke.

What did you smoke?: The occasional joint.

What did you take?: I took things far to seriously.

What did you want to be?: Never gave it any thought, was having too much fun to plan ahead.

Who/What did you believe in?: I was convinced that adults, especially conservative ones in the government, were responsible for all that was wrong with the world.

Where did you go?: Saw New Order in an Atlanta club for $6.

What did you learn?: How to sell things that I was enthusiastic about. How to take care of a vinyl album.
