Fucking disaster. My PowerBook died last night. I don’t know what happened, I’d just checked my mail and there were a truck load of dodgy looking messages and then it all just froze… I’m assuming the dodgy looking messages contained viruses, but nearly all viruses are aimed at Windows aren’t they? But whatever, I tried to start up again this morning and it was having none of it, despite coaxing in a variety of ways. It wouldn’t even start in Safe mode. Huh. So as a last resort I did a clean install, then once that was running tried to change the boot disk to my external firewire drive, which had a full clone of the hard drive (sadly it looked like I had neglected to do a backup since April though… erk). But that didn’t work, and I just had to do ANOTHER clean install, and agh, I’m getting more than a little pissed off. Admittedly it’s not yet as annoying as having to reinstall Windows, something I had a lot of experience of over the past eight years or so… but still. There’s loads of data I am assuming is now lost. Four months worth, in fact, although I’m hoping that maybe I can use a data recovery programme to try and recover something. We shall see. But it’s really not the thing I need to be happening when I’m about to head off for a few days, up to Troon and all the delights that holds in store.

So, uh, yeah, anyone who emailed me in the past four months, I have lost your mails, so if I didn’t respond already then you should drop me a quick line with a nudge to say, you know, I need to write you. That especially applies to anyone who might be reading this who emailed me yesterday…

It’s a shame too, because yesterday was otherwise a lovely day, what with a trip up to Lynmouth with Kevin and Julia, and catching the Gossip at the Cavern in the evening. But hey ho, such is life I guess.

The Gossip, incidentally, rocked. Whilst in the Cavern I also picked up a handful of fanzines, most of which unfortunately did not rock in the slightest. In fact all except ‘I Didn’t Want Any Flowers’ have gone in the bin this morning. ‘Flowers’ appears to be one of Izzy’s ‘zines, Izzy being one of the DJs last night and a friend of Julia’s (different Julia), and whose set I really enjoyed… wish I hadn’t mentioned that fact to her though because I really am a dork in those situations and wish I had rather just packed up my stuff and headed out to the street, mouth unopened.

Okay, back to Mac rescue duties.
